Weekly: Each Monday come for a casual badass workday, pop in anytime between 9-9. The first Monday of the month we will have a specific topic for the weekly coWorkdays, which you can participate in the topic or work on your own stuff. The other Mondays will be open to dig into our own work, share ideas, ask questions and brainstorm. We are co-working with support. Just like monthly meets, you will be given an object to place in your work space to communicate when you are in the zone and unavailable so you are never obligated to be available to others.

Monthly: Once a month (first Monday) we will have a main topic to get immersed in, learn more about and hear how others are doing it. There will be 1-3 leaders on the topic who will present information and then be there to help you with your own work if desired. You can also come and work for any part of the day to use the focus and intention of the group to energize your productivity without caring too much about the topic, just do your own work. (And use your no-go object when needed to have your own work time.)

Enjoy a creative day of resources and topics that serve your business or project. It works better for creative types to experience things, to actually do what we are learning in the moment- try it and apply it! We typically go to a conference or workshop and learn amazing things with great intentions of using the information but often don’t. It’s not because we don’t want to, rather, things just make more sense as we go and in an environment that is focused. This day is designed to learn and work simultaneously. Ask questions, practice and make progress. We will have people speaking on topics, taking you through the process and available to help if you need it. Use the energy to get it done!

Clap your hands! Apps can help your world go ’round, especially when it comes to your business world. While Angry Birds is a hoot and I sure love to Draw Something (favorite!), we’ll be yApping about which apps bring ease to the nine to five aspect of life, including things like keeping track of expenses, marketing, financials, contacts, editing, designing, events and then some-like all the creative aspects of what you do!

This will be a casual discussion slash information swap. Bring your Smartphone, iPad, laptop and your app suggestions to share. Leave with a smile on your face because you have some new apps and your life just got a little easier.

Learn it and do it! Lauren Ramsey will teach you social media and help you get set up and running so you don’t get home and say Umm, how does this work? If you have all your accounts set up already she will also help you organize how to use them for your specific needs.

We hope you’ll go from seeing social media as an acquaintance to a good friend after this class.

Even if you feel pretty knowledgeable about them, Lauren has some tricks and tips that help take them beyond the basics to super efficient!

Happy Headshot Hour

Headshots in a flash! This is a very special party-style promotion for the first 25 who register! Trish Badger with Trish Badger Photography will be shooting your headshot, Kasey Bertling with Skin Zen will be doing airbrush makeup and lashes for anyone who wants it. My hand is in air. Vico Puentes, stylist, is opening his studio next door to help with any styling needs you have. Anything from suggestions for your outfit/look, pinning, steaming out wrinkles and telling you how great you look- he’s so dang sweet.

Below is a list of options to accompany your headshot. You can choose all of them,none of them or pick and choose- it’s up to you, nothing is mandatory, just available! Show up and shoot or prance and primp. We’re going to have a good time getting an important part of your professional persona done. I love mixing business and fun!

A web-ready digital photo to use for your online and social media needs

Help writing or editing your bio from expert bio writin’ writers

Don’t you see so many very cool things on Pinterest that you’d love to make but haven’t found the motivation to do alone? We’ve chosen some DIY projects that look interesting and simple enough so we will put them out there as options but you are welcome to choose one that looks good to you or bring any project you want to work on.

The fun is in creating together and actually making one of those nifty little projects you’ve had your eye on.

Bring your own materials and we’ll have wine and other beverages. Feel free to bring snacks/food in, it’s laid back around here.

90 day BizWhiz Challenge

A 90 day business challenge! We each set a specific goal- whether it be an amount of money you want to make, a number of clients you want, a level of visibility, etc. This is a master-mind type group with women who are seriously serious about taking their success seriously. We each commit to trying things that might be out of our comfort zone and simultaneously honoring who we are as individuals and knowing that some things just aren’t a good fit for our personalities. (I can help you decipher those things if you’d like). We meet weekly and have a forum to check in. There are things we don’t know to do, don’t know how to do or are just scared to do- this is the stuff we will focus on so we can move into action on the things that bring us visibility and success!

A social media class served on a lunch tray in the neatly organized sections.
I love those trays (minus the pressure to have something in each section). But that’s just about how I feel about social media. I want to see it in front of me, sorted out- this one does this, this one does that. I don’t want to feel pressure to use them all, I want to feel comfort and desire to use the ones I know and like.

I asked Lauren Ramsey to do a class on social media that teaches the basics, covers the most current sites and most importantly could help us organize ourselves with using them.

I’m excited to get this laid out for me in a system that works for my needs. Lauren is great with understanding and customizing (and she has a fantastic attitude and sweet giggle).

It is time and we miss you! Mandy and I are really looking forward to getting together with you ladies again. We have some new ideas and we want to hear yours too. We want more happening with this incredible group of creative and courageous women so we’ll be asking for your thoughts, feedback and help- we have so much resource to work with in this group of over 200 women.

Our next event will be January 27th, see the calendar for all the details. This is a private event and you are welcome to invite women you think are amazing who have their own business, are involved in a non-profit, project or want to start something of their own.

We are very excited to see you again and set the tone for 2012!

Dreampop!

Top researchers say that starting the new year with a Dream Party leads to an incredibly fruitful year 99.7% of the time. I wouldn’t mess with this statistic or even consider being rebellious about it.

We will be creating dream boxes, dream sticks and dream_______s. Can you see how this opens your imagination to fill in the blank. There will not be a poster board police here on Wednesday so go ahead and collage whatever you want (even poster board). You can make a mini-collage to keep with you, a collage mural or anything in between. You can paste your dreams, goals and visual interpretations to anything. The point is that you see it daily and that you are reminded of what’s important to you. I mean, do you think we would be as inspired to go to the gym if we didn’t have to look in the mirror?! Having a Dream_______ is like a mirror of what you look like on the inside- and yes, that means having guts to look at it and pursue what you want, what you dream of.

I wanted a studio and started looking at them a year ago. My want was still in that swirly place that felt possible but so uncharted. I had a studio picked out. I met with the landlords, took photos of it and visited it a number of times, imagining myself there and imaging other people there.
I had breakfast with Amy Woodall one morning and she mentioned she was moving into her studio soon at Spring St. Studios, which was in the same neighborhood with “my” studio. I think the best part was when she shared her story with me and it wasn’t different than mine. Not that it was exactly the same but it wasn’t so different. You know how we do that thing that says, “I could have this if I were in this place or that place” or “more like this” and somehow we remove ourselves from the equation little by little until the equation looks so foreign and unrelate-able. Well, this conversation did the opposite. It pulled me closer in because I could relate. It started to look real and no longer this fantasy that lived in a far away land in my mind.
So one hot summer day in August, a thought laced up it’s running shoes and raced across my brain. “Hey, why don’t you swing by Spring Street Studios and just look?” To me, this sounded like shopping, which I can definitely handle. I went by. There was a big sign out that offered contact info for the building and I started to stay in my car and call. But then I said-get your ass out of the car, you know better than that- if you want something go touch it, try it, see it up close, make it familiar and comfortable. Pee on it if you have to (you know, if the door was open then go use their restroom). I did all that except the door was locked so I called immediately. I had a really really amazing conversation with David Deal which made it sound even more possible and he ultimately instructed me to send an email to get on the list. I did that as soon as we were off the phone. After I sent the email I thought, “What am I doing? I’m so glad they didn’t have one available, I’m not even ready for this. Go ahead put yourself on the list, we’ll see what happens.”
A month later I get a call- Hi Teya, there’s a studio available, in fact this doesn’t usually happen but there are three so get over here and you’ll have your pick! I was there in five minutes and told myself, I’m just looking, they’re available to look at and so you should look. One was too big, one was too open and one was just right. I wanted it. I’ve learned to make big decisions alone so I said I want it and I’ll go think about it and call back soon. On our way out he says have you been to Amy’s studio yet? I said no, I’d love to go by and say hi. Amy was about to walk out as we were knocking but she showed us around first. I told her I was there looking at a studio and we referenced the breakfast conversation- and here we are! She paused and said do it Teya, I was nervous about it too but I’m so glad I did it.
I left to think. Before I even had a chance to call back, he called and said hey, I just wanted to tell you that it’s been rented. WHAT?! Ya, 211 has been rented. Um…211? I want 209. Oh good, well girl you better get over here because there are three more people looking right now. He said, sometimes you have to close the back door and go for what you want.
That feeling I got when I thought I lost it was one of the most important factors in my decision. In a few minutes I had to commit to moving beyond whatever fear was lingering in taking the next step. I knew that this would be the beginning of something- regardless of success or failure- it was the opening.
I got there and said yes.
I love this place, I love what it means to me. I hope by its opening that it opens something up for you.
